Francis Bacon, in his essay Of Human Understanding (1620), said, “Man prefers to believe what
he prefers to be true.” Even evangelical Christians believe in doctrines that they wish were true
but are not accurate or Biblical. Desires, biases, and wishes shape what we accept as truth
rather than pure evidence, reason, or the Word of God.
